“Abbott Elementary” To Give Back To Teachers In Need

Abbott elementary season 3

ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” Season 3 is finally here and the cast and crew is already giving back to teachers!!

It was just announced that DonorsChoose has set a new initiative that aims to get $1 million into public school classrooms. Per Deadline

DonorsChoose has invited teachers at public schools to share projects for which they hope to receive funding beginning on Wednesday. Starting Jan. 10, the non-profit organization will accept donations for these projects in celebration of “Abbott Elementary,” and will match donations up to $500,000, limited to $200 per person, with a goal of giving $1 million in total.

“In following Quinta Brunson’s lead, honoring the impact of teachers has been a hugely important component of our ‘Abbott Elementary’ campaign,” said Laura Lovas, vice president of strategic partnerships and events at ABC Entertainment. “Outside of the joy the series is bringing to fans, it’s rewarding to see the positive impact that has been made in the public education community through continued work with incredible brands like Scholastic. And now, we couldn’t be more excited that DonorsChoose will be matching up to $500k in donations with a goal of reaching $1 million in classroom funding in celebration of ‘Abbott.’”

This is amazing!

In its second season, “Abbott Elementary” grew by 12 percent in total viewers, and was up by 30 percent in the 18 to 49 demographic. Streaming, along with viewing outside the seven-day window of the episodes’ premiere dates, accounts for about 57 percent of the sitcom’s total audience.

Abbott Elementary stars series creator Quinta Brunson, as well as Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Chris Perfetti, Lisa Ann Walter, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and William Stanford Davis. The story follows a group of dedicated, passionate teachers (as well as a slightly tone-deaf principal) as they navigate the Philadelphia public school system. Despite the odds stacked against them, the staff at Willard R. Abbott Public School is determined to help their students succeed in life. Though these public servants may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do — even if they don’t love the school district’s less-than-stellar attitude toward educating children. The teachers include Janine Teagues (Brunson), Gregory Eddie (Williams), Melissa Schemmenti (Walter), Jacob Hill (Perfetti), and Barbara Howard (Ralph). Ava Coleman (James) is the school’s inept principal, and Mr. Johnson (Davis) is the eccentric janitor.
